Sonim’s new XP3 phone takes rugged to an entirely new level, engineered specifically
for customers who work and/or play in extreme environments and appreciate the
value of dependable tools that perform as promised. Sonim’s line-up of “Built
For Life” tough mobile phones has received excellent reviews in print and online
publications around the world. Maxim UK described the XP1 as a phone that
“thrives in the most demanding situations”, Playboy subjected the phone to a number
of torture tests but was unable to break it. Wired declared that the XP1 is “Shock-proof,
water-proof, and generally whack-proof”, Australia’s Herald Sun described the
XP1 as “the answer to the prayers of people who work and play outdoors”, and CNET
said “The Sonim XP1 eats daily abuse like a piece of cake….” The XP3 builds
on that strong success. The XP3 is waterproof and includes a web brower built
in response to Sonim's customers requests for specific features and functionalities. |

Built to withstand and lastSonim
do not skimp on engineering the guts and case of the phone - it is built
to last. The seams and input ports are protected by rubber which shields the phone
from moisture and dirt/dust and absorbs impact if it is dropped or exposed to
vibrations. Additionally we use a process called underfill which glues to solders
to the board. Even the screw holders on the XP3 Enduro's case are reinforced. The
XP3 Enduro is designed and engineered to meet the needs of people who use their
mobile phones in tough conditions - working outdoors in all sorts of weather,
working in less-than-pristine industrial settings, or engaging in sports such
as sailing, snowboarding, skiing or mountain climbing. The phone is also
larger than the average mobile phone to make it easier to hold and use in a gloved
hand. All of its buttons - keypad and push-to-talk are set further apart than
on the average phone so people who are wearing gloves can easily dial and don't
have to fumble with the phone to talk or listen. Plus Sonim have added a long
life battery, a very audible audio system so people can communicate even in the
nosiest environments, and extra protection (glare and impact) to the LCD screen. Mil-Spec
means Military Specification, and is a series of standards developed by the U.S.
Department of Defense to ensure that products work as expected/advertised. Among
the criteria included in Mil-Spec standards is interoperability with other devices,
ruggedized engineering, reliability and cost. Any device that meets Mil-Spec requirements
is widely considered to be best of breed, as the military obviously will be deploying
these devices in critical life-or-death situations and need devices that consistently
perform to top standard. | |

| The
Sonim XP3 Enduro Full Specifications - The World’s Toughest Family Of Phones
The IP Code - or "International Protection Rating" -- is a global standard
that specifies the level of protection that a specific electrical appliance provides
against the intrusion of solid objects such as dust, falls and vibration, and
water. The Rugged Performance Standard is a set of nine benchmarks designed
to measure a phones complete preparedness for extreme environments. Phones are
rated on their rugged mechanics, resistance to external elements and ability to
perform in the worst of conditions. Redefining “rugged,” the RPS establishes the
new industry standard by which all industrial cell phones should be judged. The
nine dimensions of the RPS are:
1. Dust and micro particle proof 2.
Operational under extreme thermal conditions 3. Water/liquid proof 4.
Durable Keyboard Mechanics/extra wide buttons 5. Impact (drop) protection 6.
Extra-loud speakers for use in noisy environments 7. Resistant to shocks
and vibration 8. Extra-long Battery life 9. 3 year Unconditional
Guarantee
The degrees of protection
are most commonly expressed as "IP" followed by two numbers, e.g. IP57, where
the numbers define the degree of protection. IP First
number - Protection against solid objects 0 No
special protection 1 Protected against solid objects up
to 50mm, e.g. accidental touch by hands 2 Protected against
solid objects up to 12mm, e.g. fingers 3 Protected against
solid objects over 2.5mm (tools and wires) 4 Protected against
solid objects over 1mm (tools, wire, and small wires) 5 Protected
against dust limited ingress (no harmful deposit) 6 Totally
protected against dust IP Second number - Protection against
liquids 0 No protection 1 Protection
against dripping water or condensation 2 Protection against
water spray 15 degree from vertical 3 Protection against
water spray 60 degree from vertical 4 Protection against
water spray from all directions 5 Protection against low
pressure jets of water 6 Protected against low pressure
water jets and heavy seas 7 Protection against the effects
of immersion (6 inches to 3.3 feet) 8 Protected against
immersion under pressure |
